I was sent to teach kindergarten this year after doing older grades for 20 years & need some help. Although I feel I’m doing ok with the basic curriculum, I am the 3rd Kindergarten teacher in my building and am treated by my 2 colleagues as the odd-man out. I know it sounds petty, however, it is reality. It’s actually to the point where I’m not sure they are even giving me correct answers to my questions. So, I’m going to give this a try. I need to give a writing benchmark to my students before next Thursday when I have to bring it to a meeting with the curriculum person who is also an administrator. I don’t want to show up unprepared, but the one teacher who has been teaching kindergarten for 23 years told me today that she hasn’t done any benchmarks & doesn’t really know what she will be doing, “but we have until Thursday anyway.” I don’t plan on holding my breath & don’t want to ask her again. Any suggestions on a mid-year writing benchmark for 5 & 6 year olds? Thank you very much.
Lisa, because this discussion forum is about classroom management/behavior issues, I think you are likely to get more help if you post your question under "General Discussions" on the forum list. Since you are under a time constraint, you might get quicker responses if you also include something in the title that indicates that you need help asap.
Lisa, I sent you some information about how to post on the other discussion group, but haven't seen your question there. Perhaps that means you found a solution elsewhere, but if it means you didn't receive my email or my information wasn't helpful, please let me know.
I did get your info - thank you very much - I actually had help from one of my generally uncooperative colleagues - I will find out at tomorrow's meeting how helpful she really was - I will save your info for another time - thanks again
