Unfortunately, no one can control someone else--a student has to choose to control himself or herself. If you can establish a rapport, you have a better chance of them making that choice.

Ali, I  agree with Barb that the goal is to help children learn to take responsibility for themselves and that establishing relationships of trust and respect with them is key. You will find helpful information on how to do this, as well as how to deal with specific behavior concerns, by reading other posts on this discussion board.
